How to Recover Your Digital Marketing in 2021

← Back to Insights

After the most turbulent 12-months anyone could have possibly imagined, nobody can be blamed for looking firmly ahead to the arrival of 2021 and that includes digital marketers.

It’s never too early to be thinking about your digital marketing strategy for the coming year and 2021 is certainly no exception as companies look forward and try to forget everything about the recent past.

But unless you have a clear vision, you could find that the New Year is just as fraught and equally as fruitless as the last one.

So here’s to your digital marketing future, it’s only just begun.

Identify Your Goals

You might be keen to get your business back to some kind of normal in the coming year, but rushing into 2021 like a bull in a China shop could do more harm than good in such uncertain times.

That’s why it’s vital that you identify your targets from the outset – do you want to increase sales? Get more people to sign up for your newsletter? Or drive traffic to your website or social media pages?

Having a clearly defined goal or set of goals will help guide your digital marketing strategy and ultimately ensure you’re on the right path to achieving your resolutions in 2021.

Know your audience

If you don’t already know what type of buyers you’re trying to attract then now is the time to decide, otherwise you could end up wasting time as well as money.

Do you know who your products or services appeal to? Are they women or men? Young or old? Local or international? If you don’t know, then you won’t be able to create the best possible marketing campaign.

So take a look back over your previous orders to see if you can spot a pattern, or maybe even create a customer satisfaction survey – it may seem like a lot of effort but it’ll likely be worth it in the long run.

Look out for new opportunities

All being well, 2021 will be a much better year than the one that has gone before, but that’s not an excuse to be lazy or complacent as nothing should be taken for granted.

Never rest on your laurels when it comes to a new digital marketing campaign for a New Year, as this is the ideal time to decide whether you are making the most of your existing channels or whether it’s time to try something new.

So study your reports, brainstorm new ways of reaching potential customers or even look at your competitors to see if they are doing anything you’ve missed – but whatever you do, don’t just hope that things will all work out for the best in 2021.

Budget accordingly

Like most things in life, the very best often comes at a price and that’s no different when it comes to digital marketing; but if done properly it will be a price worth paying.

Think about where you want to spend the bulk of your budget. Is it pay-per-click advertising? Email marketing? SEO? Or maybe hiring a social media manager to enhance your presence throughout the industry?

Of course, you don’t want to break the bank after the year we’ve just had, but you don’t want to be too cautious either, otherwise you run the risk of missing opportunities, so maybe set yourself benchmarks throughout the year – then you can adjust your strategy depending on your progress.
